“The world is in the mind, the mind is in the heart and beauty lies in art”. An honest sense of happiness and wonder lies in summoning up the artistic self within us. The unraveled beauty of the mind finds true expression in penning down the indelible experiences of life. Writing therefore, is much more than an art. It is the gateway to that constant human craving to express. Writing promises a freedom that is untamed. The world stands with a wrinkled forehead better known as Stress. The doctor prescribes tranquillizers to numb the restless mind. What the mind has to say, have we ever asked? The mind hankers for freedom. Freedom relieves the helpless disease called Stress. And the act of writing is an excellent stress buster the world has ever known!
The style of writing is a matter of preference. The free style of writing involves a continuous flow of thought and simultaneously penning it down. This is better known as ‘stream of consciousness’. Thus, writing a diary is the best example of such a style. Again, some writers choose to be more plan freak and would follow a structured pattern where writing looks more organized and prior planned. Books recommended for management trainees would easily sneak into this category. However, irrespective of such style or pattern, the act of writing is a powerful tool to give expression to one’s thoughts. Stress develops when the mind is bottled up with too many emotions difficult to manage. Writing about certain stressful life experiences is a powerful vent helpful to cope up with emotional fallouts. The act of thinking is a mind-boggling act that needs constructive expression. And what else apart from writing can give a concrete shape to such thinking! Also, writing creates a private space where an individual is free from the burden of pretending; he is able to give meaning to his experience and thus break free from an endless mental cycling of thoughts and emotions.
Writing has no age. Writing has no religion. Writing has no caste. Writing has no creed. Writing has no reservations. And this is freedom. Such freedom gives confidence. The inability to articulate is an existentialist challenge. Hence, the act of writing helps to overcome such a challenge. It makes existence meaningful. We write not to escape from a crisis. We write to give expression to our experiences and learn to live with adversities life has in store. We write to live and thus, live to write. Writing must go on…
